For the last few years, I have created artwork that has been influenced by my experiences when planning my wedding ceremony in 2002. This body of work is largely concerned with issues of gender roles and societal expectations placed on women, specifically on "brides." I have worked in a wide range of media, including performance and video art, as well as traditional media such as welded steel and watercolor paint on paper.

Generally, I have incorporated or directly represented the archetype of the wedding dress into my work. Using an object that has a wide range of assigned meanings and connotations allows me to challenge those associations. I have produced sculptures and paintings of abstracted wedding dresses and wedding rings. Also, I have utilized pre-made wedding gowns (found objects) in my video art, performance art, as well as in what could be called "ready-made" sculptures.

One of the longest continuous pieces of art I created was a performance in which I ritualistically wore a wedding gown for the entire month of February of 2005. "My Special Day, Week, Month" required using video as a form of documentation. This piece, as well as previous ones, has stimulated my interest in video as a medium worth further exploration. Video art has a wonderful way of speaking to an audience through the use of narrative. It is interesting, however, to question where the boundaries of the art lie. Where is the voice in the artwork? Where is the art? Is the art the performance, the three dimensional elements in it, or the video itself?

More than a sculptor or a painter, I consider myself to be an artist. Work that I am most inspired by allows me to glimpse inside the mind of another human being. I find the human element to be the most important thing in any work of art. That is why I feel it necessary in my own work to relate my experiences; it is an attempt to connect to others. The most thrilling aspect of being an artist is to make a contribution ot the world and watch how people respond to it.
